ABOUT ME

I qualified as a psychotherapist after a long career in the arts. It was a job that gave me the opportunity to see the world through other people's eyes and started my interest in our relationships and how they affect us. The way we forge them, how we behave within them, and the anxieties and difficulties they can sometimes present. Close, personal relationships, work situations and friendships, along with the complex relationship with have with ourselves and our past, can all become overwhelming, pressurising and stressful. With a genuine desire to listen and support, I want to help you make sense of your struggles and find a positive way forward.   I would like to help you explore anything you want to bring to therapy. I will provide a calm, empathic environment where you can put yourself first and talk freely about the difficulties you're going through. We will carefully look at what's behind the challenges you are facing and, by understanding the underlying thoughts and experiences, make the changes you need for a positive future. I can imagine that taking the decision to have therapy, and then start the search for a therapist, might not have been easy. I want to reassure you that you can talk to me in confidence, knowing I will always have your best interests at the heart of our work together and want to be with you - however difficult the process - to support, listen and help. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which is the largest professional body representing counsellors and psychotherapists in the UK and I value and abide by their ethical framework.

The way I work

The integrative model of psychotherapy I practice means I can use a variety of approaches and ideas to ensure that your sessions are always focused in a way that best suits you. I believe we are all products of our past experiences and the relationship attachments we develop - whether they are recent or further back in time - and by exploring where your difficult thoughts, feelings and emotions come from, we can understand and make sense of how they are effecting you and your relationships today and so bring about the fundamental, lasting change you need.
